"Our Lustron in Des Moines, Iowa was the Lustron
model home for west of the Mississippi. We have original press clippings,
books.
Weve owned it about 18 months and I believe just the third
owners. Someone replaced the kitchen cabinets and added an air conditioning
unit in the hall closet prior to us, but otherwise, I believe the
house and garage are very original.
We updated
while hopefully responding to the original design intent with
stainless steel countertops, flooring...Its cold in the
winter but otherwise we love it, while we live a downsized lifestyle
with our two dachshunds. "

"We have lived
in our Lustron since 1979 and we love and call it a special home.
We are located on a small chain of lakes in northern Indiana.
We enjoy it year-round. We are in a county historical book. We
get so many visitors still interested in seeing our home. "

"We
are in a very high traffic area and zoned commercial so we thought
a great color and a bit of funk would help us to stand out.
Other than
the color everything on the outside is original. The home had
one repair due to rust damage on the bottom of the gables. "

"My wife
and I are proud owners of a Lustron in Cleveland Heights, OH.
I bought the place as my first house in 2000. After meeting my
wife we lived here for a few years, then decided to get a bigger
place when we got engaged.
After living
in the new house for two and a half years and renting out the
Lustron, we decided we missed our old place (Lustron) so much
that we were going to move back. So now we're home again. "

had the original exterior covered with aluminum siding, had shingled
roofing added and the original kitchen replaced. I later updated
the windows, and have just completed updating the floors, kitchen
and bath. " |

"A change
in plans . . . our Lustron Wall is preserved. It was not exposed
to weather since 1968.
I was busy remodeling an earlier back room addition. It came time
to re-cover the Lustron wall with sheetrock. The porcelainized
panels were in such fine condition. So I kept the wall exposed
as a permanent monument to the home's Lustron legacy. Fortunately,
a 1960's carpenter had artfully enclosed the wall without damaging
the Lustron panels."
