I am now 59, but when I was in the 8th grade
I came to this house for a dance party. When I got home that night
I remember telling my mom how shiny and bright this house was. I
remember the mirrors and the brown tile on the floors. It was beautiful
to a kid!!
Years later while moving through
a divorce, this house came up for sale and I looked at it. I knew
right away I was going to buy it because no matter what others could
or couldn't afford, this home was unique and no upkeep! The first
winter was a cold one as the storms (windows) were mostly missing
and the electric baseboard heat was lousy so I used the wood stove
and the girls and I got through!
The wood stove is gone, the storms are magnetic that stick to the
inside, the heat is now gas forced air with central air, the floors
are carpeted with multicolored Berber throughout, the bath is tiled
and the tub enclosure remodeled, --all compliments of my now hubby
of 24 years.
He just replaced the original gutters with custom made new ones.
That was an expensive experience, but they are beautiful. We are
planning new windows, but want to be sure to keep the integrity
of the house as best we can.
We live on a small chain of lakes and love living in this house
here. It is the only one in the county, however, there are quite
a few in neighboring ones.
The Model number is 2 and the serial number is 849. We have the
original nameplate on the wall. I've framed the original ads from
magazines and they are hung. Our house has been featured in a trade
magazine article and over the years I have so many articles and
pictures of other Lustrons. We live in rural Columbia City, Indiana
at Tri-Lakes.
