I grew up in a three bedroom Lustron home
near Lindsey, OH. My folks had it built behind an existing old farmhouse,
and we moved in in June, 1950, I think -- for some reason, "the
last day of school when I was in the 1st Grade" sticks in my
mind. I moved out in 1964 when I got married. My folks stayed until
about 1986. Dad had a back room added in the 1950s, and a detached
garage later, about 1962. Dad replaced the oil furnace with an electric
unit, but little other maintenance or repair was needed. He did
paint the roof gray, but I think that's because he didn't like the
green. The house itself was tan.
Our road was gravel, and quite muddy when
the house was delivered. Dad and Granddad had 2 tractors connected
to the truck to get it to the site. The new owners painted it white.
It can be seen by looking north while travelling on the Ohio Turnpike
at about mile 86 1/2, between SR 590 to the East and Hessville Road
to the West. The address is 2906 County Road 141, Lindsey, OH. Although
I've driven past the house several times over the years, and just
sold the surrounding farmland (inherited from Dad), I've not been
inside since Mom & Dad moved out. Holler if you think you can
jog my memory for further details.
